Athletics
St. Andrew's Elementary places a great emphasis on athletic activities. Athletic activities allow students to discover areas of interest and talent. They provide the opportunity for students to apply themselves with discipline to a goal and to experience success and excellence in that area to enhance the development of self esteem. These skills of identifying talents, applying disciplined focus, and achieving excellence are highly transferable life skills necessary to the life learning of our students.
The foundation of our athletic program is the provision of 90 minutes of Physical Education each week with a P.E. Specialist, supplemented with a 30 minute minimum of Daily Physical Activity provided by the classroom teacher on the other days of the week.
On top of this we provide the following athletic activities each year:
- Starting in Kindergarten and Grade 1 students may participate in Sports Day
- Starting in Grade 3, students may participate in swimming, Cross-Country and Track and Field
- Starting in Grade 4, students may join our Martial Arts School, in conjunction with OMAC Martial Arts.
- Starting in Grade 5, students may participate in Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball and Badminton. Grade 6 and 7 students may try out for our school teams competing in the Lower Island Middle School Sports Association.
